On the occasion of the exhibition, Openbaar Kunstbezit Vlaanderen, a periodical devoted to the fine arts and cultural heritage, will dedicate the 4th issue of 2006 to the Kunstwerkstede De Coene. This issue tells the entire story of the Kortrijk Kunstwerkstede: from its beginnings as a furniture company (arts & crafts, art nouveau) to the interbellum breakthrough (art deco), the turbulent 1940s and the post-war revival (contemporary interiors, fast architecture, wooden beams and prefab construction). In addition, this issue delves into the unique character of the work environment, projects and employees of the Kunstwerkstede. Various themes are explored, including the craftsmanship and innovative spirit of De Coene, the artistic network of the firm’s leaders, the company’s international theater of operations and the many projects they designed or helped to complete at Expo 58.
